Hello! Welcome to my blog with another art journal. I’m in love with the new colours appearing in nature when it’s Fall time. So, I created another piece on an art journal this time. You can watch the video here or on my YouTube channel and you can find full list of supplies at the bottom of the page:
I used Dylusions journal this time. It’s actually my favourite, as it takes medium really nicely. I did a light gesso wash on my page first as I was going to use acrylic paint. Then I started with one of my favourite techniques, creating an embossed background. I used a script stamp all over the page stamping it with Versamark ink. Then I embossed it with Ranger Clear Embossing Powder, so that I have this texture at the background and it comes forward when I paint over it.
I wanted a shiny metallic look, so I used Prima Metallique Acrylic paints. It was the first time I used them, and I loved it. The colours are amazing and it has a very elegant shine to it. So, I went all over the page with Rich Turqouise. Then blended Emerald Green only on the edges. I used a wet wipe to lift the colour a bit, so the texture is clearer.
I created the focal points by paper piecing. I love this new die set I got. It’s Fall Foliage by Sizzix & Tim Holtz. It has 14 dies in it, several leaves, branches in different sizes and shapes. You can use it many many times in different projects. I used watercolor card stock to die cut, as I was going to use Distress ink with water to color them.
I cut a lot of leaves with these dies because I wanted to cover the whole page as if there’s a pile of leaves on the floor. Then I coloured the leaves easily with Distress ink. I used tones of yellow, orange, red, green and browns. I put a bit on the craft mat, sprayed water and mixed different colours together. Then, I dipped the leaves inside the blend and all of them have different multiple colours on them. I sticked them on the page randomly on top of each other.
Then, I sticked the branches as if they are coming from a tree on top and I sticked the little leaves from the same set on the branches. I did the shading with Faber Castell Pitt Brush pen. I used some Gold and Copper Mica flakes by Prima on the leaves just to give them a nice uplift and shine. And I did some gold splashes with Distress Tarnished Brass to keep the page together.
For my sentiment, I wanted to have a sign hanging down the tree branches: Welcome Fall. I first stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink and gold embossed it.
Then I decided it got lost, it wasn’t legible, so I changed to stamping it with a darker colour: Aged Mahagony with Distress Ink. I did clear embossing all over the sign to have a nice texture and crisp figure. Distress ink takes longer todry, so it’s really amazing for embossing. I used a cord to hand the sign. I just sticked it there as if it’s attached. And that was it 🙂 I hope you like it, and don’t forget to leave me a comment ot like if you do. See you next time!
