Art Journal #5: Hello Halloween

img_2252Hello! Welcome to another post. Halloween is coming, so I thought it would be fun to create an art journal page with the theme.

I had this idea of a witch flying in the night with bats and ghosts around, and here is what came out of it 🙂

You can find the video below to see how I created it, please don’t forget to leave me a comment or hit the like button:

I am working on my Dylusions journal. I first did a quick gesso wash. Then used some masking paper, stamping the beautiful moon on it. Then I sticked the masking paper on the journal where I want the moon to go, so that it would leave a space for me to stamp it later. This way it wouldn’t be ruined with all the paint I put on the background. I used Distress paint to create the night sky background in colours: Blueprint Sketch, Dusty Concord, Wilted Violet and Chipped Sapphire. I slowly built the colour, blending them with a wet wipe. I applied Distress ink in Black Sooth only on the edges to give a frame to my journal. I did some splashing with Distress Picket Fence paint, to create the stars in the night sky. after creating this background, I took out the masking paper where the moon was supposed to go, and stamped my moon from Lavinia Stamps. I used a Halloween stamp set for my focal points.

I stamped the witch like she’s flying to the moon. I stamped the spider web on the edges and white embossed it. Then I stamped the bats on a piece of card stock. Cut them and sticked on my page only in the centre, leaving their wings up to create some dimension. I used a stencil that I made myself with my Silhouette digital cutter (if you want to learn more about this, please leave me a comment) and used black paint to create tree branches.

The most fun part was to create a window on the left page tearing a part of the page.  I had the idea of some eyes looking through it like ghosts 🙂

I tore a part, then I painted the back page with black paint, then sticked a few wiggly eyes in different sizes. I also white embossed the sentiment ‘Boo’.

Lastly, I stamped the sentiment ‘Happy Halloween’ to my page and again white embossed it.

Few detail touches were to create some twinkling stars and highlights for the witch with my white gel pen.

I hope you enjoyed the page! Don’t forget to visit my YouTube channel Umut Rados, leave me a comment or subscribe.
